Bursaries
Bursaries have been given since 1968 by the White
Rock/Surrey Club to Surrey and White Rock women entering their third year or
higher of
an accredited university degree program.
In November, 1986, the Bursary Foundation was
established, thus enabling the club to issue receipts for income tax
purposes.
The number and amount of bursaries
varies. In 2007, four bursaries of $2500 were awarded.
Three bursaries of $3000 were awarded in 2008.
The deadline for applications for financial
assistance is September 1 each year.
2009 JUBILEE BURSARIES
This year marks the 50th
anniversary of CFUW White Rock/ Surrey. To mark this special event, the
club’s Jubilee Committee launched a year-long "toonie drive" among club
members.
This campaign netted over $6000. With
the addition of funds from the
Surrey White Rock Bursary Foundation, we were able to offer three $3000
Jubilee bursaries, one of which was awarded in memory of long-time club member
Rosamond Sarles.
On
October 24th, the Club held a bursary lunch at the White Rock Lawn Bowling
Club. All three bursary recipients attended, and were presented with
their awards and Bursary Certificates.
